We are a small woodworking company specializing in custom furniture making as well as refinishing furniture and millwork. Located in the small northern community of Iron, Minnesota we pride ourselves on personalized service and really getting to know our customers' needs and wants. Founded by woodworker Mark Larson we are a family run business that cares about community and runs on the belief that everybody deserves to have beauty in their lives.
We are located in Northern Minnesota's Iron Range so of course we service towns like Hibbing, Virginia, Mt Iron, Eveleth, and Grand Rapids. However, we also travel through a much larger area. We often service customers in Duluth, Superior, Bemidji, Brainerd, and even Minneapolis and St Paul. Occasionally we'll deliver pieces nationwide going as far as California and New York, though, of course, we do have to charge for those deliveries. We also ship smaller items nationwide through our Etsy store.
Yes, we do! We can deliver and install most anything we make. We offer free local delivery and even national delivery for a fee. We can also pick up your repair or refinishing job for you, so you don't have to worry about moving heavy and awkward furniture pieces.
Refinishing and repair are two of the cornerstones of what we offer our customers. We can fix a wobbly chair, a scratched-up tabletop, or, oftentimes, even a leg that the dog chewed on. We also work closely with a local upholsterer so that the fabric portions of your furniture can be taken care of as well.
We start by discussing your needs and preferences, then we create a sketch and for approval before beginning construction. For more complicated/ larger pieces we do 3D modeling to be sure everything is exactly how you want it.
We do! We can design your piece to meet your exacting specifications. We even often partner with a local upholsterer to add a fabric flair to your piece.
We work with a wide variety of solid and laminate woods all depending on the application. We even have extensive veneering experience to get something that looks particularly special.
We offer a variety of finishes including stains, paints, and clear coats to protect and enhance the beauty of the wood. Our go to is oil-based stains with an extremely durable pre-catalyzed lacquer clear coat but we are willing and able to do any number of finishes based on application and customers' needs and desires.
We know waiting a long time for a project to be completed can be tough. But some projects can be done quickly while others take a lot of time. Either way, we do our best to be upfront with the timeline for your particular project giving you an estimated timeline before we ever receive a deposit.
Since each piece is custom-made, we do not offer refunds or returns. However, we will work with you to make any necessary adjustments to ensure your satisfaction.
Most projects require a simple 50% deposit to start a job with the balance due upon delivery. However, large or complex jobs sometimes have a more complex payment schedule, but that schedule will always be clear and agreed upon before work starts. Sometimes we can even accept installment payments for a job as long as the last payment is made before delivery of the piece.
Yes and no. If you want to change something we haven't started yet, say a stain color on a piece we haven't stained yet, that's no problem and can be accomplished with a simple phone call. If it's a more dramatic change or a change on something we've already done, that can require additional payment to make that change based on materials and labor involved in the change.
We recommend using Old English or Murphy Oil to keep the luster of your woodwork looking new. We discourage the use of anything with a waxy buildup as that makes future refinishing much harder.
You can email us at mark@upnorthwoodworking.com or call or text us at 218-969-0424. Let us know what you're looking for, and we'll work up a quote for you. Not sure what you're looking for? We can help with that too.
